What is dermaplaning, exactly?
Christi uses a sterile surgical blade to gently scrape away the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) and the top layer of dead skin from your face. There is no chemical and no downtime. Skin feels smoother right away and makeup sits flatter afterward, which is why it is a popular add-on before an event rather than only a standalone facial.
Who does dermaplaning at Selah?
Christi Esteves, a licensed Texas esthetician. She performs every dermaplaning appointment herself — it is not handed off to a different staff member — along with the facials, peels, HydroFacials, waxing and lash and brow work on the menu. You see her real calendar before you book.
How much is dermaplaning in Livingston?
From the published menu at Selah:
- Dermaplane Facial (50 minutes): $75, as a facial on its own.
- Dermaplane Add-On (25 minutes): $45, added to another facial you are already booking.
- Happy Peel with Dermaplane (1 hour): $135.
- Deluxe HydroFacial, includes dermaplane (1 hour 15 minutes): $220. New clients pay a $110 deposit.
See the full detail on the dermaplaning page. Returning clients do not pay a deposit; new clients pay one on the longer treatments, shown before you confirm.
Will the hair grow back thicker or darker?
No. The hair removed is vellus hair — fine, soft "peach fuzz" — and dermaplaning does not touch the hair follicle. It grows back exactly the same as before. This is one of the most common questions Christi gets asked at a first appointment.
How often should I get it done?
Most people book every four weeks or so, in step with the skin’s natural turnover cycle. Christi will suggest a schedule that fits your skin at your first visit rather than a one-size answer.
Which option should I book?
- You want dermaplaning as the main event: the Dermaplane Facial, $75.
- You are already booking a facial: add dermaplaning for $45.
- You want it paired with a peel: the Happy Peel with Dermaplane, $135.
- You want it bundled into a bigger treatment: the Deluxe HydroFacial, $220, includes dermaplane.
- Not sure: the Skin Care Consultation is free. Christi looks at your skin and tells you what she would actually do.
How do I check that an esthetician in Texas is licensed?
Estheticians in Texas are licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). You can check anyone, for free:
- Open the TDLR license search.
- Choose cosmetology, then search by name or licence number.
- Look for an active status and an expiry date in the future.
Christi’s licence number is 1939424. We would rather you check than take our word for it.
What should I know before my first dermaplaning appointment?
- Hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM; closed Saturday and Sunday.
- Cancellations need 24 hours’ notice. Less than that, or a no-show, carries a fee of 50% of the booking. More than 15 minutes late and we will need to reschedule.
- Buy now, pay later is available on bookings from $50 to $4,000.
- Skip retinoids for a few days beforehand, and keep heat, sun and heavy exercise off the treated area for 24 hours after — the same aftercare Christi gives for waxing, since both work on the skin’s surface.
